Artists and their books
Ed Ruscha – 26 Gasoline Stations
In April 1963 Ed Ruscha published, on his own imprint National Excelsior Press, “26 Gasoline Stations”. As its title suggests, “26 Gasoline Stations” reproduces 26 photographs of gasoline stations next to captions indicating their brand and location.
“26 Gasoline Stations” is often considered to be the first modern artist’s book.
